The New Perron Building at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts

Today, modern learning spaces must offer far more than just traditional presentations. Diverse teaching methods, hybrid collaboration and multi-purpose spaces call for audiovisual technology that is both flexible and easy to use. In the new Perron building at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, a comprehensive audiovisual infrastructure meets precisely these requirements.

With the construction of the new Perron building at the Lucerne train station, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts has created a modern educational facility for its departments of Social Work and Economics. We had the privilege of providing media technology support for this extensive new construction project, from the planning phase through to its successful handover.

The building offers a versatile learning and working environment with large, medium, and small classrooms, learning spaces, coworking and group rooms, as well as meeting and quiet rooms. The space is complemented by a bistro, lounge, and exercise areas. We developed and implemented tailored audiovisual solutions for each of the building’s various uses.

Professional display and projection solutions are used for presentations and classes. High-performance audio systems, ceiling microphones, and wireless microphone systems ensure excellent speech intelligibility and enable a variety of teaching and event formats. Auracast-based hearing assistance systems also support barrier-free use of the facilities.

Hybrid teaching and presentation formats were also taken into account during the planning phase. PTZ cameras and a network-based audio and video distribution system provide the technical foundation for flexible scenarios. Operation is handled via a unified control concept with touch panels, allowing the media technology in the various rooms to be used intuitively.

The auditorium, foyer, and Perron Lounge presented special challenges. In these areas, we implemented comprehensive ProAV solutions featuring a large-format LED wall, professional production control systems, camera and tracking systems, and high-performance sound and lighting systems. The installation was complemented by digital signage and concierge solutions, as well as the necessary network infrastructure.

We were responsible for the detailed implementation and system planning, the installation and programming of the media technology, as well as commissioning and acceptance testing. User training was also an integral part of the project. The project began in October 2025 and was successfully completed in June 2026.

The result is a comprehensive media technology infrastructure that supports the diverse requirements of a modern university while enabling simple and flexible use in everyday operations.
